1. Nov 6, 2007 - Election Day

Remember to vote on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Included on the ballot are: 16 proposed state constitutional amendments; HISD proposed bond sale authorization; Harris County proposed bond sale authorization; Election of several HISD & Houston Community College trustees; and Election of city officials for Bellaire and Houston.

We still need Election Clerks to work at the various precinct voting locations in the Bellaire area on November 6th. If you can work for a few hours, please contact Patrick Durio by phone at (832) 423-4038, and he will direct you to the polling location of your choice, or to whichever location needs your help the most.

2. Nov 10, 2007 - Garage Sale

Bellaire Democrats will hold its annual Garage Sale on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at 4709 Maple St, Bellaire, Texas. Items should be clean and in working condition: furniture, computers, appliances, toys, jewelry, tools, clothing, household items, and holiday items. 3. Nov 13, 2007 - General Membership Meeting & Special Performance

Bellaire Democrats will hold a General Membership Meeting, along with a Special Performance, on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, 7:00 pm, at the Bellaire Civic Center (Seniors Room), 7008 S. Rice Ave, Bellaire, TX. Please arrive at 6:45 pm, for refreshments and seating prior to the performance.

A special performance, titled "Uncovered: The American Health Care Story", will be presented by The Potboiler Artists for Change. Using storytelling, poetry, music and movement, the Potboilers convey the need for serious health care reform in America. Following the performance Dr. Joseph Bak, clinical psychologist and frequent presenter on health care reform, will facilitate a question and answer session.

The presentation, sponsored by Bellaire Democrats, is open to everyone at no charge. Please encourage your friends, family and neighbors to join us for what will surely be a very interesting and informative evening.


4. Dues are payable for fiscal year beginning June 1, 2007

All members and potential members are reminded and encouraged to pay dues for the fiscal year June 1, 2007 - May 31, 2008. Individual membership dues are $5 to $15 per year, and Household membership dues are $5 to $25 per year (based on your financial ability to pay). We encourage everyone to pay as much as you can possibly afford, since the cost of sending newsletters, etc. is quite high for the Club. Any additional donations that you can afford to send will help us pay the cost of communicating with area voters.

5. Options for delivery of Newsletter

Since the cost of printing and mailing Newsletters is high (financially and environmentally), we would like as many members as possible to choose to receive Newsletters by E-mail, rather than U.S. mail. (Please note that the Newsletter is a separate document from this monthly calendar of events.) However, if you prefer delivery by U.S. mail, that is definitely okay. We just want you to stay informed!

Several members have already elected to receive Newsletters electronically. If you have not already done so, please notify Patrick Durio patrick.durio@durio.pro of your preference for delivery of the Newsletter.

We are currently accepting volunteers to serve on the Newsletter Committee. We need individuals to help: research topics, write condensed articles, layout the newsletter, fold and assemble for mailing. If you are interested in serving on the Newsletter Committee, please contact Patrick Durio at patrick.durio@durio.pro .

a. If you are not sure whether you paid your annual dues to the Bellaire Democrats, please contact Linda Norris at llnorris@flash.net to inquire about the status of your membership. Your annual dues help cover costs of the Newsletter and club operating expenses. The current fiscal year of the club is from June 1, 2007 through May 31, 2008. A dues application form is available at the Bellaire Democrats webpage.

b. Please visit and bookmark the webpage of the Bellaire Democrats at: www.BellaireDemocrats.org . We will do the best we can to keep you up-to-date about events, issues and elections. At the webpage you can find links to the Harris County Democratic Party, as well as the Harris County Clerk and other informative sites.

c. We attempt to limit our E-mail transmissions to no more than 2 messages per month (one for the Calendar of Events, and one for the Newsletter). In order to reduce the financial and environmental cost of mailouts, we encourage members to receive communications by E-mail. However, if you prefer to receive communications by U.S. mail, that is okay. Send your communication preference request to Patrick Durio at: patrick.durio@durio.pro .
