1. May 13, 2008 - Bellaire Democrats Annual Picnic
Current and prospective members of Bellaire Democrats are invited to attend our Annual Family Picnic on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 6:00 pm. We will be serving delicious hamburgers and other great food, and enjoying the company of great neighbors and friends. As we kick off our new fiscal year (June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009), this is the time to join the club or renew your membership!
The picnic will be held in the Bellaire Town Square, behind City Hall at 7008 South Rice Ave in Bellaire. So that we can properly plan for food quantities, please RSVP to Margo Kendrick at agabee@aol.com or 713-665-4409, providing your name and number of people attending. Bring the whole family, and invite your friends and neighbors. We would appreciate your bringing a pot luck side dish or dessert if you like, but it is not required. Bring lawn chairs.
2. May 21, 2008 - Elizabeth Edwards at The Progressive Forum
On Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 7:30 pm, Elizabeth Edwards will be speaking at The Progressive Forum, in the Wortham Center. A breast cancer survivor, Elizabeth Edwards talks openly about overcoming life obstacles in a nonpolitical event. Wife of former Presedential hopeful, John Edwards, she is the author of Saving Graces (2007). She is an accomplished attorney, law school professor, and a passionate advocate for children.
You may obtain details about the event, and purchase tickets online at www.ProgressiveForumHouston.org .
3. New Fiscal Year for Bellaire Democrats
Bellaire Democrats will be starting its new fiscal year on June 1, 2008. So, it's time for loyal Democrats to send in membership renewals for the fiscal year June 1, 2008 through May 31, 2009. Those who have not previously been members are invited and encouraged to join. While we certainly need and encourage donations to Bellaire Democrats, we structure the membership dues so that everyone can afford to join. Please go online to www.BellaireDemocrats.org to download the membership renewal/application form, and mail the form and check to Bellaire Democrats, c/o Linda Norris, Treasurer, 5117 Grand Lake St, Bellaire TX 77401-4923.
4. Yard signs and bumper stickers
One of the benefits of being a member of Bellaire Democrats is the ability to have yard signs and/or bumper stickers of your favorite Democratic candidates delivered to your door. The club currently has signs and stickers for both Hillary & Obama, as well as local, county and state Democratic candidates. Campaign materials cost money, of course. Bellaire Democrats picks up campaign materials at the candidates' offices and makes contributions to cover the costs. In turn, members are encouraged to send political contributions to Bellaire Democrats to keep the project going.
Other Notes:
a. Please visit and bookmark the webpage of the Bellaire Democrats at: www.BellaireDemocrats.org . We will do the best we can to keep you up-to-date about events, issues and elections. At the webpage you can find links to the Harris County Democratic Party, as well as the Harris County Clerk and other informative sites.
c. We attempt to limit our E-mail transmissions to no more than two messages per month (one for the Calendar of Events, and one for the Newsletter). In order to reduce the financial and environmental cost of mailouts, we encourage members to receive communications by E-mail. However, if you prefer to receive communications by U.S. mail, that is okay. Send your communication preference request to Patrick Durio at: patrick.durio@durio.pro .
Thanks!
